Perfect Combination of Simplicity and Sophistication

simple and sophisticated interior design

Coming up with interior décor designs for a new house can be a daunting task whether you are a seasoned veteran in the business or you are a DIY enthusiast. Every new project is interesting and challenging in its own way on account of the different personalities involved. However, when things come together perfectly, all the time and effort becomes justified as with the Toronto based couple Neal and Stephanie. Below is a description of their newly decorated home by Lark & Linen, and my favorite aspects of the interior décor work.

1. The general theme

The couple settled for a monochromatic theme with grey, black and white as the main featured colors. The combination gives the home a clean and modern look and feel with the white tones also adding the illusion of increased space. There is a bit of color here and there with the flowers, potted plants and sandy brown kitchen island stools. These have the effect of jazzing things up and adding a bit of color and character to the home.

2. Furniture and setup

Something else I really like about the house is the simple yet elegant furniture pieces. The four seat casual dining table is without a doubt my favorite with the set adding a nice personal touch to the otherwise very edgy dining area. The couches in the living area are also pretty awesome combining both comfort and style without even breaking a sweat.

3. Dual purpose storage

In this case when I say dual purpose I don’t mean convertible furniture or anything like that. I mean storage that not only allows you to store your items but also to do so in a way that complements the aesthetic dynamics in the given space. This is exactly what the shelves and drawers in this home do. One piece in particular features a fragmented wall shelf unit with different small compartments that hold everything from books and magazines to potted plants and a comfy throw blanket.

4. Art and other aesthetic pieces

The art is, as with the rest of the interior décor, simple yet sophisticated. Sticking to the main theme, the pieces are all monochromatic. They however differ in terms of content with some being script pieces, others landscapes and others abstract pieces. A lot of candles were also used as part of aesthetic accessorization and they can be seen everywhere from the corner space in the living room to the night stand in the bedroom.

5. Lighting accessories

My final favorite part is the lighting accessories which are probably the best part of the entire setup. The street light inspired lamp over the bathroom is nothing short of pure genius and adds a special touch to the space. Other interesting pieces include the chandeliers in the kitchen and living room and the frame lamp shade in the couple’s bedroom.
