Great interior design by Stern McCafferty. The interiors of this 19th century townhouse were stripped bare. The design is a fusion of old and new – brick, wood beams and pine sub floors merge with steel, acrylic, and glass.
Two townhouses were combined to form one, modern house. A continuous glass wall unites the two buildings on the ground floor. Acrylic box openings create vertical connections between the floors, while the new steel supports express the link between the two buildings. Floating white plaster walls contrast with the exposed structure. A wall of thin steel bookshelves enlivens the library. Subdued colors and a refined palette of materials create a quiet serenity in the master bedroom suite. Simple forms define the master bathroom. The detailing throughout the house is uncomplicated and uncompromising.
