Cheer up millennials, this is for you. This is what could be your dream apartment house; this is what could be your dream Downtown L.A (DTLA) Loft. It surely brings forth everything that every young adult would want: dramatic, cool, relaxed, charismatic, beautiful, practical, modern and vintage, all in one setting.
If you’ve watched MTV drama series “Scream,” you probably know about Brooke Maddox who is confronted with a lot of murders in the fictional Lakewood town. This is a character played by beautiful actress, Carlson Young, who apparently knows a thing or two about creating a dramatic environment. She shares this incredible DTLA loft with Isom Innis who apart from being her fiancé, is a producer and band member of Foster the People.
A quick look at the rented loft and you’ll instantly realize that Young and Innis enjoy a different kind of drama. It is based on having an imaginative mix of both modern and vintage styles in combination with distinctive personalities all brought together in one marvelous space.
A Blend of Youthful Excitement and Soulful Detailing
In designing the loft, Young brought in a little help from professional interior designers Joyce Pickens and Caroline Walkup, who are all her friends. While the two designers had never worked together before, Young loved working with them in tandem as they brought different points of view and ideas. This combination of three different minds with varying tastes led to a youthful exuberance and soulful detailing, which are particularly highlighted with bold modern art, thoughtful personal accents and carefully collected antiques.
A Favorite Workplace
Taking into account that the couple often spends time working from their home, they had to make it their favorite workplace. Their studio is simple yet so elegant you wouldn’t want to leave the place even though a step outside brings you right to a full-on city living lifestyle that is only imaginable in New York City. And as a book person, Young ensures that her book collection is arranged in an amazing manner that oozes style, creativity and an eye for detail
Vintage Furnishings and Accessories
Young expresses her love for vintage furnishings, but with a taste of playful modernity that is perfectly combined with pristine contemporary accents. From the safely suspended antique chair that challenges the space to the vintage brown leather sofa, everything inside the loft is a blend of modernity and vintage detailing.
Impressive Gallery Wall and Antiques
Being a young modern couple, you’d expect Young and Innis to have some intriguing gallery wall of paintings and antiques. They actually do not disappoint as they carefully sprinkle their walls with art that tells their personal stories. From a painting by Innis’ sister, lyrics of a favorite song to an authentic horned bull skull, every piece of art is an expression of where they come from or what they believe in.
Bold Lightning Statement
As dramatic as the loft may be, Young ensures that their lightning makes a bold architectural statement in terms of uniqueness and sophistication. For example, she uses Edison bulbs on exposed wire chandeliers right on top of the couple’s bed that perfectly accentuate the couple’s matte black walls in the master bedroom.
A Moment in the Kitchen
Even though the couple rarely cook, the massive marble island in the kitchen is perfectly ideal for entertaining guests. There’s a combination of stainless steel, a white Carrara marble top and a wallpapered wall to give it a relaxed and welcoming feeling.
Whether you’re a fan of Young’s character in the thrilling “Scream” series or not, or you love Innis’ music with Foster the People, it is undeniable that you’ll fall in love with the couple’s DTLA loft. It is where retro-meets-super-modern in every manner possible. All you have to do is check it out and borrow a leaf or two from it. Do you like it? Let us know.
