A Modern Vintage Masterpiece

This home is a ground-floor garden flat located in South London. Caroline Rowland’s from Patchwork Harmony, flat is small but cozy at seven hundred eighty-four square feet and is decorated in a modern vintage theme.
Open Floor Plan
This one-story flat features an open living room, master bedroom, and second bedroom or nursery in the front and a kitchen and dining area in the back. The back of the flat was originally constructed with two rooms divided by a wall in order to separate the cooking area of the kitchen from the dining area. However, the home was remodeled to combine the two rooms into one bright, open space with added natural light.
Natural Wood
Raw, natural woodwork is a staple throughout this house. The flooring in the kitchen and dining area is crafted from original Victorian floorboards painted bright white to reflect natural light that streams through the window into the room. Plus, the cupboards that line the walls of the room are formed from white-washed wood and the island, which provides a focal center and a spacious cooking area, features smooth golden wood with a shiny copper trim. The large window on the wall of the kitchen and dining area looks out onto the home’s open wood deck that is situated above the lush garden. The exterior kitchen wall connected to the deck is crafted from white brick in order to increase the amount of bright light that is able to flow into the indoor cooking and dining area.
White-Washed and Bright
In order to maintain a light and open ambience throughout the entirety of the home, the walls are primarily white in the bathroom and two bedrooms. However, the wall decor in the flat is anything but boring. The master bedroom features a wall plastered in whimsical wallpaper with a navy blue bird pattern on it, and the second bedroom or nursery includes wallpaper with a pattern of pale green and white diamonds. The walls throughout the rest of the house are dotted with other unique decorations, including vintage painted plates and prints.

Vintage and Modern Furniture
Most of the furniture throughout the flat is vintage, but it retains a modern vibe and does not appear outdated or unfashionable. Many furniture pieces are constructed from natural wood and are painted in bright colors to complement the primarily white walls. The rest of the furniture is either painted white to match the walls or is crafted from dark golden wood. The contrasting furniture in the home creates a stunning combination of bright colors, soothing whites, and natural hues.
This garden flat mixes an unlikely combination of vintage and modern themes to create a beautiful blend of contemporary style with classic furniture and decor that highlight the home’s open floor plan and emphasize the bright natural light that flows into it.
