Imagine a place where you’d wake up to a nice view, better yet, have a great view of the hillside and skies whichever part of the house you stay. Sonja Rasula and Jonathan Sager’s home in Echo Park, Los Angeles is built with this feature and is lovely in itself, filled with modern and vintage textiles, the right blend of colors, and personal item collections.
More windows than walls open up the space in the living room that’s coated in BEHR Decorator’s White paint. The neat and clean ambiance is matched with a West Elm chest and a beautiful, locally-made custom sofa sitting on the wooden flooring. The area is given life with a colorful theme of an assortment of textile pillows and a rug, and a towering stack of books.

The bedroom is quite simple, with just the textile pillow and blanket-laden bed and two nightstands amidst white walls and wood floors. Though they actually live with two dogs, Apollo and Aleister, a charming cat pillow has made its way in their home. The couple has their breakfast nook looking out into Elysian Park hills as they have their meals sitting on pink chairs from ABC Carpets enhanced by the sheen of Devine Macaw eco paint.

Now to the heart of the home, the kitchen. Custom-built with wooden cabinetry, marble countertops and professional-grade oven, it’s exactly how Jon and Sonja likes it. The element of color again accentuates the room with the patterned Plastica Swedish plastic floormat in pink. A rustic radio is one remarkable piece among other tools and small appliances.

The dining area looks cozy with the cleverness and use of attractive wallpaper, with the room brightened by natural light passing through the huge windows. Black Eames wire chairs from Modernica perfectly fit the solid wooden table, situated right below the contemporary, unique lighting fixture designed by Brendan Ravenhill. A bunch of flowers make for the centerpiece, alongside the elegance of gold flatware paired with an heirloom of antique knives and dishware crafted by skilled potters.

A side table holds everything they need within arms reach at the dining place, from booze to linens and napkins, to board games and playing cards kept in its drawers. It also holds a precious massive-sized amethyst given by Jon to Sonja as a wedding present. A mirror in the backdrop gives a glimpse of the home’s glass door entrance, where a hand-painted sign right above that says “We are all in this together,” given to the couple as a gift by artist Keith Scharwath and featured at their wedding ceremony.
