I remember meeting Jimmie Karlsson at Maison et Objet in Paris about eight years ago. What struck me immediately was how radiant, upbeat and genuinely warm he was. He is one of those people whose positive energy fills a room the moment he walks in.

And even earlier—around fifteen years ago—Jimmie surprised everyone in London. He was renting an apartment in Bayswater and told the owner and his friends that he wanted to paint the kitchen and living room walls black. At the time, almost no one painted their walls black. It simply wasn’t done.

The best part came later. When Jimmie moved out and a friend took over the flat, the estate agent asked her to keep the black walls. He said they had become a striking feature and made the apartment easier to list.

The Jimmie Martin’s and Rick Schultz’s Apartment in London appeared in ten magazines around the world and even landed three covers. It was the early stage of my blogging life, and I remember receiving a flood of messages about that famous apartment.
