When the owners of an oceanfront cottage in Nags Head, North Carolina, decided to rebuild from the ground up, they had one heartfelt wish: their new coastal cottage should feel like it had always been there. Their dream was to maintain the essence of the oceanfront cottage charm.
To bring that dream to life, Arianna Pannoni and Kasey Bedford of Winsome Interior Design embraced a philosophy that blended history, craftsmanship, and effortless coastal charm. The result is a new build that feels like an heirloom. It is rich with warmth, patina, and personality — the perfect balance of “forever home” and seaside retreat. The oceanfront cottage now stands as a testament to elegance and comfort.
Coastal Charm with a Story to Tell

Every detail in this home whispers nostalgia. The designers leaned into period-inspired millwork. They used painted floors in a historically inspired shade of ocean blue and V-groove paneling that wraps each room in texture and warmth, perfect touches in an oceanfront cottage.
“From the start, our goal was to make the new house feel as loved and lived-in as the one the family had cherished for 20 years,” says Kasey Bedford. “We wanted every corner to feel familiar — as if it had been touched by time and salty air.”

High-performance textiles and natural finishes were chosen not only for beauty but for durability — a nod to the cottage’s barefoot, sandy-footed lifestyle. Every material was selected to age gracefully, just like the generations who will gather here, making the oceanfront cottage ideal for family retreats.
The Kitchen: A Study in Sea-Sprayed Serenity

In the heart of the home, the kitchen captures the essence of laid-back coastal living. Arianna and Kasey started with a palette of sun-washed blues, seafoam greens, and crisp whites. This created a look that’s as refreshing as a morning breeze off the Atlantic. It complements the oceanfront cottage’s ambiance flawlessly.
The floors — painted ocean blue and pre-aged for extra patina — anchor the space, reinforcing the cottage’s timeless appeal. White walls and two-tone Shaker cabinetry, designed with Tanya Smith-Shiflett of Unique Kitchens & Baths, evoke a sense of timeless craftsmanship.
“Those cabinets set the foundation for that classic coastal aesthetic,” notes Arianna.
Countertops of Calacatta Oro marble with an ogee edge elevate the space. Meanwhile, unlacquered brass hardware and a paneled refrigerator keep the look seamless and sophisticated, befitting an oceanfront cottage.
Touches of green, like a handwoven rug and scalloped tray, ground the palette — a gentle reminder of the dunes and grasses beyond the porch.
A Bar for Every Hour

Just off the kitchen, a cleverly tucked-in oak bar transitions from coffee nook to cocktail station as the day unfolds in this oceanfront cottage.
Outfitted with separate hot and cold taps, an inset sink, and drawer-style mini fridge and freezer, the bar embodies functional luxury.
Open shelving allows for both practical storage and playful styling. Meanwhile, a petite green light and matching accessories add pops of personality — proof that practicality and charm can coexist beautifully.
