Designed by Anna Olga Chmielewska, the interior design of this small yet picture-perfect detached cottage nestled among apple trees in the Polish countryside can be best defined as a crowning romanticized version of shabby chic. The perfectly balanced decor weaves together optimum functionality with exquisite taste and enviable style. Clean lines, natural materials and colors highlighting that nature is home decor most special friend are the norm with this superb Polish home. A sublimely composed interplay between the outdoor space and the interior space is an illustrious homage to natural, its source of inspiration and creates a sense of continuity that reflects in the warmth, sense of well-being, charm and refinement pervading this cottage.
The breathtaking garden with awe-inspiring patio area screened by light wooden trellis and lush lawn area is complemented by a cozy terrace with rustic accents such rattan woven side chairs, a wooden table painted in pure white and floor-to-ceiling light gray shutters ornated with leafy plants. In addition to enhancing the living space, the dual-purpose spacious terrace is also designed to integrate the interior and exterior of the house, conveying a coveted unity. The pivoting glass doors further accentuate the airy feel of the interior, while complementary wooden floors are used inside and out.
The decor of the living room is a glaring example of how the all-mighty white can work magic to enliven and rejuvenate this family space in its own unique subtle way. Set against a neutral backdrop with cream-colored, sparingly adorned walls and white ceiling, the pure white sofa, strategically positioned to capture the sunlight, features just the right amount of deep blue accents in every other cushion. The legs of the custom-made wooden coffee table and graciously sculpted with flower motifs and painted in white to match the rest of the furniture. The focal point of the living room is the fireplace with an attached seating area and small black glass doors, elegantly decorated with family photos, white horse sculptures (and apparently a lovely black cat), adding extra warmth to the notion of hearth.
The romanticized cottage-style decor is decidedly pervaded by harmony, balance and fluidity throughout. The lack of a separating wall between the living room and the dining room significantly increases the living space and boosts the sense of openness, but a deftly planned separation between the two areas is nevertheless integrated with a subtle shift in the chromatic palette.While the same neutral background and defining color of the decor is continued, the dining room gets additional earth accents by incorporating an oval-shaped intense brown wooden dining table with a simple, white table cloth and surrounded by all-white chairs designed in a simplistic manner. A vintage chandelier with an intricate design hangs from the ceiling. The focal point of the dining room shifts to the brown-colored grand piano that infuses the area with more lyricism.
The affected feel of the dining room decor is further enhanced with the use of a vintage white eared armchair and small circular table with black trimming, cleverly positioned in front of the window to allow countless options of contemplating the lush landscape. The staircase is painted in white and cream right in the middle to match the background and it leads to the attic which was transformed into a bedroom. The white bed with matching white nightstand significantly increases the small space while illuminating it at the same time. The light-colored wallpaper with subtle patterns and the rectangular mirror with delicate trim lend an additional romantic touch to this intimate area. The wooden floor is gloriously complemented with a forest green rug that matches the forest green bed cover, bringing nature into the bedroom.
The design of the kitchen is functional and clean, with all-white countertops and cabinets, light-colored tiles and eye-catching kitchen backsplash combining various patterns and colors that are encompassed in the selected chromatic scheme, such as blue, gray and tan. The bathroom, located in the attic next the bedroom is the most colored area of the house, but its design is kept clean and simple. The light gray walls and light blue tiles feature white accents through a simplistic white sink, white artwork adorning the walls and woven laundry baskets painted in white.
