The London Apartment With The Viral “Wine Tap” Everyone Got Wrong

If you’ve been anywhere near design Instagram lately, chances are you’ve seen that image — a brass tap pouring red wine into a glass, casually placed next to what looks like a bathtub.

And yes, the internet collectively lost its mind.

But here’s the twist:
👉 it’s not in the bathroom.

And once you see the full apartment, it all starts to make a lot more sense.

A Striking Exterior That Sets the Tone

“A striking façade of marine blue, with contrasting sun mural, alludes to the contemporary alterations that beguile the original fabric.”

From the outside, this home already hints that something interesting is happening inside. The deep marine blue façade paired with that bold sun mural feels graphic, confident, and just unexpected enough to stand out.

Designed for Modern Living (Without Losing Its Character)

This two-bedroom ground-floor apartment was designed by an architect formerly working under the Simon Astridge Architecture Workshop.

Every detail feels intentional:

  • bespoke joinery
  • clever spatial planning
  • a refined but warm material palette

Materials That Tie Everything Together

One of the strongest aspects of this home is how cohesive the materials feel throughout:

  • Maple wood joinery adds warmth and architectural clarity
  • Venetian terrazzo introduces texture and subtle pattern
  • Tadelakt plaster brings softness and depth
  • Brass accents add just enough contrast and warmth

Nothing feels overdesigned — but everything feels considered.

The Bathroom: Moody, Textural, and Elevated

The bathroom leans slightly more dramatic — in the best way.

  • deep green tadelakt walls
  • dappled green terrazzo surfaces
  • warm brass fixtures

It’s rich, layered, and quietly luxurious without trying too hard.

A Home Full of Subtle Details

This is one of those interiors that reveals itself slowly:

  • hidden storage integrated into the architecture
  • clean, minimal lines that never feel cold
  • soft, curated bedroom styling
  • a living area that balances comfort with restraint

It’s thoughtful design without unnecessary noise.

And Now… The “Wine Tap” Everyone Talked About

So yes — the viral moment is real.

There is indeed a tap pouring wine into a glass.

But despite what the internet assumed,
👉 it’s not in a bathroom — it’s in the kitchen.

And honestly, that makes it even better.

The kitchen, located at the rear of the apartment, is centered around a bespoke triple-width sink with brass hardware and Venetian terrazzo that echoes the bathroom surfaces.

The sink is set within a small maple-clad extension, creating a bay-window effect that floods the space with natural light and beautifully ties together the apartment’s material palette.

To the right of the sink sits a rarely installed — but undeniably brilliant — feature:
a fully plumbed wine tap.

Meticulously planned, the kitchen also includes:

  • extensive hidden storage
  • clean plywood work surfaces
  • a layout designed for both function and visual clarity

It’s a perfect example of how a single unexpected detail can elevate an already well-designed space.

So… Would You Install One?

Is it essential? Not really.
Is it a little indulgent? Definitely.
Is it kind of genius? We think so.

Because great design today isn’t just about how things work —
it’s about how they make you feel.

And this one?
It makes you look twice.
