You can choose to do this in a number of ways depending on your personal style. Leave some of your walls completely bare, with no ornaments or pictures. Or utilize simple and natural fabrics for draping (think raw linen, etc). These simple touches can be shocking to the eye while drawing attention to other pieces in a room.
Keep Your Walls White
While this look goes hand in hand with the previous tip, it is also an invention of necessity. Many French apartments are dark unless they are placed on the top floor and the lack of light does a space no favors. Due to this, white walls have been incorporated into French interiors to help balance the lack of natural light. ANother purpose is to maximize what they do get. You can always choose to incorporate a splash of color with a beautiful painting or small accent walls that complement the tone of the room.

Many French homes have a rug as a centerpiece for their space, which offers both beauty and functionality to classic apartment designs. While a rug can be the accent space for a large room, many people also dislike walking across the wooden floors that many French apartments come with. Choosing a bright or patterned rug will offer an amazing contrast to your white walls while also muffling the noise and of a wooden floor.
