You know when a hotel room is technically beautiful… but somehow still forgettable five minutes later? Yeah, this is not that.
The new Michael McGregor Art Suite at Casa Monti in Rome feels emotional, playful, slightly chaotic, and completely alive — like stepping inside an artist’s sketchbook after a long Roman summer.
Contemporary American artist and illustrator Michael McGregor has transformed one of Casa Monti’s suites into a fully immersive artwork. And honestly? It might be one of the most interesting hotel rooms in Rome right now.
A Hotel Suite Covered in Art

The suite unfolds through oversized pastel murals, illustrated textiles, hand-painted ceramics, and custom fabrics covered in Roman-inspired motifs — from mythological figures and ancient columns to grapes, birds, and handwritten symbols.
Every surface feels touched by the artist’s hand.

The walls look intentionally unfinished, the drawings feel instinctive and spontaneous, and the entire space somehow balances theatricality with warmth. Instead of polished luxury minimalism, the suite embraces personality, imperfection, and emotion.
And that’s exactly why it works.
Who Is Michael McGregor?

Michael McGregor has lived in many places over the years, but recently has been working between Los Angeles and Athens — something that feels very present in his work. His drawings combine Californian looseness with Mediterranean warmth, mythology, and color.
Known for his quick gestural lines, pastel-pencil textures, and intentionally naive aesthetic, McGregor developed his signature style in 2016 while constantly traveling. Without sketchbooks on hand, he began drawing directly onto hotel stationery, layering loose illustrations over formal hotel logos.

What started almost accidentally eventually became his trademark visual language, leading to exhibitions in Los Angeles, New York, Berlin, and Athens, as well as collaborations with major luxury and fashion brands, including illustration work for Chanel.
A Love Letter to Rome

The suite also debuts ROMA AMOR, a new body of work inspired by McGregor’s visits to Villa Medici, Palazzo Venezia, and Centrale Montemartini during his stay in Rome.
You can feel those references throughout the interiors. Classical mythology collides with loose contemporary drawing, creating spaces that feel romantic, artistic, and deeply personal at the same time.
Honestly, it feels less like staying in a hotel and more like temporarily living inside someone’s imagination.
Would I Stay Here?

Absolutely.
Because in a moment where so many luxury hotels are starting to look interchangeable, this suite feels genuinely memorable.
The Michael McGregor Art Suite at Casa Monti is available to book through 15 October 2026, with nightly rates currently starting from around €545 during select August dates. At the other end of the spectrum, the suite reaches up to €2,444 per night for peak spring stays in late May.
For travelers who care as much about atmosphere and creativity as location, this might genuinely be one of the most unique places to stay in Rome right now.
And if you’re planning a trip to Rome before 15 October, you can book the suite directly through Casa Monti’s website.
