Two buildings made of stone in the traditional village of Triantaros were unified to create a vacation residence that is in total harmony with the landscape and the architectural past of Tinos. The interior of the residence was redesigned to achieve absolute privacy and independence. In the new spaces the irregular lines of the buildings play a leading role through a fluid design that smoothens the contrasts, encourages the dialogue between light and shadow and forms an environment in which relaxation verges on solemnity.

Victoria Faynblat is well positioned to appreciate importance of this moment: she became an architectural and interior designer after having tried to successfully express herself in fashion design.

Although this transition had not been planned, Victoria never looked back, as her soul began an exciting journey into the field of interior design. She decided not to fight this newfound addiction, and in no time turned her amateur hobby into professional level work. She, however, still continues to reinvent herself in new designs, as she deepens her professional knowledge of design.

«There is always something new to learn. However, it is often not the acquisition per se of new skills or techniques, but rather ideas, that are born in your head through such acquisition or more precise under the creative pressure from those new acquisitions. »

After several years of special training and real life practice she remains the regular visitor of professional trainings, seminars and building and interior design exhibitions. Given such events usually take place in the major European capitals of design, they allow Victoria to combine her passion for design with her other passion – travel. Her soul is captivated by beauty of old cities of Italy and France.

«These cities have their own charm, which is difficult to let go of. Local architecture, art, landscapes… all this coupled with the way a life is felt presents that particular «Dolce vita» art even in the most simple details of your everyday life»

Victoria’s teachers and masters live and work here, while her cooperation with an eminent local workshop and the design house makes Victoria’s connection with Italy, the land filled with beauty and sun, even stronger.

As shown by Vika’s experience, the seeds of impressions collected around the world, perfectly ascend in the generous Ukrainian soil. But Viktoria does not consider this factor to be of main importance:

«The most valuable ability is an ability to listen and hear. It is absolutely necessary to catch Customer’s wish even if he or she him/herself is not able to clearly formulate it. It is funny to hear but I truly believe that the talent of the interior designer is in his or her ability to know more about Customer’s desires than he or she does … In addition to this, you must convey to him creative ideas, often having before him just barenaked walls to be torn down, or just sad and gloomy empty space. My first profession probably helps me in this a great deal…»   

Victoria obtained her first degree in a field of «soul-knower» – psychology. Such training and experience does not stay unused, but is now just one of tools in her arsenal as a creator. Although, as said above, this particular tool comes in handy and often irreplaceable when we deal with creation of  individually designed place where people plan to spend their living.

Patterson Associates have created this Summer residence on Waiheke Island. A place famous for fine vineyards with illustrious names such as Cable Bay, ManOWar and Passage Rock.

The island is also the location for some of Auckland’s finest holiday houses and this home is located on a steep coastal escarpment above a tree fringed white sand beach on its northern coast.

The quality of the Waiheke wine is attributed to its geology; seams of pyrite rock criss cross the island like veins. It’s this geology that gives the grapes, primarily Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec, their distinctive local Waiheke taste. The design uses this same local pyrite stratum as a building material to create a sense of place and belonging in its Architecture.

The rocky mass of the home was been arranged as a bridge, open both sides to exploit both the beach frontage and the afternoon sun. Under this, a main living area nestles safely into the escarpment between a spacious ocean-front pool terrace and a grotto-like western courtyard to the west. The owners often use this grotto as an outdoor movie theatre.

Bedroom suites are grouped above as finely scaled, romantic and louvered lookouts in the canopy line of the trees lining the clear waters of the beach.

White and red interior designed by Romolo Stanco. The Turin flat called “A Space Odissey” is designed thinking of a movie set rather than a purely architectonic setting. Basically, it starts from the idea of dissolving the real – the physical – space by eliminating any chromatic and formal trait. Keeping in mind the lounge in Space Station V, the project reases all the spacial divisions by only employing white color both for the horizontal and the vertical surfaces.
